Values and Beliefs

Integrated holistic systems solutions, not piecemeal approaches
We maintain that effective treatment requires a comprehensive approach to achieve recovery and a healthy lifestyle. Alcoholism and drug addiction is a disease that impairs the body, mind, and spirit. It has the potential to frustrate, discourage and destroy the lives of the family, friends, employers, and the community closest to the individual.

 Scientific and outcome-based best practices
There are many different treatment approches available. Through research into effective outcomes, we learn what works and what doesn't.

 Supportive Community
Recovery flourishes in a supportive community, the latter may in fact be a prerequisite.

Education leading to understanding, insight, and self esteem
Education will overcome the stigma attached to alcoholism and drug addiction.

 Conscious Personal Choice
Education leads to conscious personal choice, versus habitual or unaware action in response to marketing, political pressure, or other social and personal influences.

Accessibility for all groups of people

All groups of the population should have access to information and services that meet their unique needs.

The alcoholic and drug addict should always be thought of as treatable
We believe the stigma of addiction, which prevents people from seeking treatment, must be reduced or eliminated.

An organizational environment that acknowledges individual efforts and contributions
Our board, staff, and volunteers are our most valued resources.

Advocacy for those who cannot advocate for themselves
The illness of addiction creates disempowerment for those impacted by it.

 Recovery requires on-going support
The NCADD promotes participation in Alcoholics Anonymous, other 12 step programs, and support groups as an effective "continuing care" strategy.
